If you’re planning a vacation to the New York shores any time soon, you’ll want to make sure you select the right beach for your needs. Thankfully, there’s no shortage of things to do here in New York and you’re sure to find a beach that works for your seaside retreat.
Fort Tilden Beach
Located in Breezy Point, New York, this gorgeous stretch of beach used to be an old military fort. It features 3 miles of clean sand and it’s not uncommon to enjoy a large portion of the beach to yourself. It’s highly recommended you bike to this beach because it is inaccessible via vehicle. It’s also fairly desolate, which means eateries and convenience stores are few and far between. Pack a picnic and hit the sand.
Coney Island Beach
With 3 miles of sandy beaches, this tourist destination is popular for not just its beach, but also the famous boardwalk that includes carnival rides and small eateries. It also features volleyball courts, handball and basketball courts.
Jones Beach
One of the longest beaches in New York, this stretch located in south Nassau county is almost 7 miles long and is a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy your day. Mini golf, two swimming pools, and the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center all offer something to you and your family.
Rockaway Beach
You wouldn’t think you could find a good beach in Queens, but that’s exactly where this beach is located. It is located on a peninsula and features a sandy beach. It’s also the city’s ONLY legal surfing beach!
Manhattan Beach
Located in Brooklyn, this famous beach is a favorite among many people. Pack a picnic and enjoy the wide variety of activities including baseball, volleyball, basketball, and handball. If you don’t feel like packing a picnic you can always try to grab one of the many BBQ spots.
